Well that was easily the best damn parking lot punk show I’ve been to in the last twenty years.
I’m talking of course about SKA-lloween in Salem last Friday night, where half of the Roland High Life teamed up with half of Bad Idea USA for a very special Operation Ivy cover set. And it ruled.
Seriously, that show was a blast.
That’s Courtney and Sean from Bad Idea USA on vocals and bass, respectively. (They’ve got a new EP coming out in a few weeks, too, which you should definitely check out.)
Playing these songs—at this time in the world—was cathartic as hell. Even cooler was looking out into the parking lot and seeing so many people singing along. I mean obviously we didn’t write the songs. But it was still nice to connect with other people who, like all of us, had their lives changed by this blitzkrieg of an album from 1989, chock full of tongue-twisting lyrics that age like fine sociopolitical wine.
Thanks to everyone who came out. Except the guy who lived next door and tried to call the cops on us at 6:45pm in downtown Salem on the Friday before Halloween even though we had a live music permit and were fully in accordance with the law. Which doesn’t sound very punk, I know, but still; fuck that guy.
See you in a few weeks at The Jungle!
