Our bass player Jake kept telling us that we absolutely had to play the Stomping Ground. He’d been doing a semi-regular rotation there with his ska band the New Limits, and said it was a great spot with a great local crowd that always treated the bands incredibly well.
He also warned us that the stage was tight. Again, he was coming from a ska band—of course the stage would be tight.
But oh, wow. Yeah. That was quite a cozy setup! In a way, we were fortunate that our keyboard player Walker got sick and had to skip the show. I don’t know where we would have put him.
What I do know is that we still had an absolutely incredible time, with a multiple waves of eager audience members braving the snow to rock out with the Roland High Life. And we cannot wait to come back and do it again. (Not just because the grilled cheeses were bomb, either.)
Here are a fun clips from the night.
“Scotty Says” by the Roland High Life
“Just Like Heaven” by the Cure
And then there was this…
We also had a little extra time to mess around so I decided to rip on an earnest emo cover of “I’m Not Ken” from The Barbie Movie. Maybe we could flesh this one out and turn it into a mainstay of the Roland High Life’s bar sets? I guess you’ll have to stay tuned and find out!
Overall, it was a fantastic night, and we can’t wait to come back. Shout-out to our old friend Kt for once again taking some great photo and video of the band.
