A cool day and an uncommon stage

And so we made our triumphant return to the scene of the crime—Emerson College! Or, well, directly in front of it anyway. On the historic Boston Common, which might be even cooler.

Which is all to say: we played on the Uncommon Stage, hosted by Harpoon Brewery and Emerson College, backdropped by the dorm where Thom and Walker first met all those fateful years ago and started talking then about maybe starting a band. And it was a great day!

Not only was it cool to play in such a public, outdoor setting—it’s always nice when you can see total strangers walking past and then actively stopping to take an interesting your band—but we also had a little fun with the format. We’ve done a few of these kinds of sets before, mixing cover songs and originals to fill out the time. This time around, though, we took it a step further, giving Thom, Nick, and Walker each an opportunity to do a few solo songs—works in progress, deep cuts, and , in one case that even surprised the hell out of the rest of the band, a Dusty Springfield cover (yes really; you missed it, it was great).

Also the weather that held up. That made it even better.

Here’s a look back at some of the fun:

Here’s a sneak peek at some of the newer songs we’ve been working on, played solo that day:

The only full-band video that we got (at least that I know of) was a cover. But at least you can see the crowd rocking out with us, which is still cool:

Thanks again to everyone who came to rock out with us. We’ll see you on September 13 for the closing night of Aeronaut Allston (also Walker’s birthday party!).
